I think what strikes me most about it is that this realization of what it means not to be first or "good enough" came to you in Mexico. So many of us leave the US and are happy to find the more laid back, non-pressured life as expats. I have most definitely had that experience in Argentina. It's a difficult habit to shake being first, but it serves us all well to move past it. Also why writing a letter to Fourth is so apropos. Isn't that the way so many people say goodbye to people, feelings and other unwanted or uncomfortable parts of their lives? Thank you for this! Sarah, what a great piece.
