Fantastic- I always feel a little sad when the farmers’ market in Union Square in NYC shifts entirely to squash and root vegetables, but I’m cheered by the idea of a season full of dense comfort food.

I’m only mildly embarrassed to admit how much I love farmer’s markets. There’s about 6 year around markets in Oakland alone, and I’ve been known to hit up multiple ones in the same week. I find them strangely grounding in urban environments, connects you to nature, all that hippie shit I hate to admit I believe in. (Independent and local is punk rock, right?)

in Seattle we are blessed with several year round farmers markets. Not least of which is the famous Pike Place Market, a 5 minutes walk for me. Fresh, cheap produce that is by and large uber local…what could be better?

I am guilty of feeling the same way when summer begins to retreat and I’m left chilled by the Chicago winds that start blowing despite my denial of the inevitable seasonal shift. But, this article reminded me of all the opportunities I have to connect with my self and food in very simple but important way.
