Just a pointer: If you buy some of these birds, which are native of Brazil, within the country, the chances of arrest and that the bird's have suffered enormous mistreats are large. Please, be extremely conscious when purchasing those, as it can bring you some big troubles and the money is probably going to the animal traffic mafia, who treats animals with the same care they would have with stones.

My wife and I share our house with Teddy Bird a 25 year old double yellowhead Amazon who has her full flight feathers and who flies around the house with the greatest of ease. Amazon's have a life expectancy of between 60-100 years. They are messy and they love to chew wood, so you've got to be constantly on guard or you'll potentially find a door frame, etc., needing repair. Same goes for books, papers, pens, in fact anything laying about. So getting such an animal IS lifetime commitment! If your considering a parrot I'd strongly urge you to read BirdTalk an excellent magazine about parrots. Also go and talk to the local vet that specializes in birds. Know also that parrots generally only bond with one person. However, parrots are very social animals. I met Teddy when she was 8 years old. She saw me as an invader and I frankly was afraid of getting bit. However, over time we bonded. She's a;so bonded with our poodle, god daughter and interacts with friends who visit us.
Sharing your life with a parrot is a wonderful experience. I have learned that Teddie (and parrots generally) are incredibly intelligent animals and offer us far more than we offer them.
