It's heartening to see that there are other options and new waves coming in public education. As someone who worked in the NYC public school system for years, I am a firm believer that new is a good thing. Also, Lila's school is based on the theory of multiple intelligences. It's refreshing to see children treated as whole people, that their coloring and ability to express themselves takes equal importance to math and reading. There's too much pressure in education to pass tests and measure up to specific yardsticks. Thanks for this article, JoAnna.
