Card charge merchants 1.5 - 3.5 on everything you buy with them. This raised the prices for everything. In Argentina, we been told charge merchants up to 8%. We only use cash when traveling. And the moment you rely on them when traveling you are screwed. My new bank via failure Chase, will only let me have 300 pesos a day, $80 US and they said they don't know why. Well I have been in the CC business an they are just to lazy to really look. So save small merchants in the US and abroad and quit using those cards. They have a bad rep (often for good reason, in that the companies really do want you to go into debt), but they're a tool like any other. You just have to use them smartly and not get caught up in charging way beyond your means to pay them off. (Or do so knowing what you're getting yourself into...) Hal - I'm curious, how do you book flights? Can you do that with debit now? I got my first credit card when I started college, specifically to be able to book flights home.
