Vote Zach To Take Over For Lady Oprah

Who will fill the hole now that Oprah’s leaving TV? We have a suggestion.

In November 2009, Oprah Winfrey announced to the world that she was calling it quits with her talk show. The world stopped turning, and cities collapsed into the sea. 25 years of television stardom, and now she’s handing over her throne to someone else.

It’s fair game: anyone can submit a video testifying why they would make the best new talk show host. Browsing through over 3,000 video applications, the variety of faces and ideas and dreams are exhausting. The talent is endless. Unfortunately, so is the crap.

Then there’s this guy.

Zach describes himself as a “wheelchair bound lady magnet.” By the end of his video, I was forwarding the link on to all my friends and laughing my face off.

With over 3-million votes and counting, Zach stands a pretty good chance of stealing the torch from Oprah. Even if he doesn’t win, I’d gladly turn into any television show he decides to star in, because I’m pretty sure it’ll happen.

When television is more addictive than ever, and major networks are cranking out crummy content on a daily basis, can a guy like Zach give us something refreshing to watch? Share your thoughts here.

Loved this video! I totally gave my vote to Zach.

In an environment here in the US where it’s so taboo to discuss any type of physical or mental conditions deemed ‘disabilities’ a show like the one Zach proposes would be a refreshing way to get talk on the table rather than be all hush-hush about it. There is this reigning philosophy that only people with specific disabilities/handicaps are allowed to discuss those things (even in academics) and I think Zach’s show would be an awesome way to open up the dialogue.

Definitely, Heather! If I’m being honest, I felt a little squirmy when I saw the first 5 seconds of the video, just because it really isn’t something you see on TV everyday (I think?). But by the time he was wrestling into his pants, I was gung-ho on seeing this guy become the next Oprah. Such an amazing personality, regardless of wheelchair or disability.

I can relate to your comments Candice, I too felt a little ’squirmy’ when first watching this video. But Zach seems to have a good and humorous attitude about life. I’d definitely tune into see his show.

And I think Heather is right too, this could open up a dialogue about people with disabilities. It seems that by not discussing or sweeping such ‘taboo’ topics under the rug, we’re pretending that they don’t exist. Or people put so much focus on the disability they forget there’s more to a person than physical limitations or other attributes. We should encourage everyone to reach their highest potential. I don’t how many people watch Glee, but it’s like when the cheerleading coach Sue was just as tough on Becky (a girl with Down Syndrome) as she was on her other kids. Mr Schuester (another teacher) complained to Sue that she was picking on Becky, but Sue pointed out that she was just holding Becky to the same standards she did as the other kids. Becky wanted to be treated just like every other kid in the school and that’s what Sue was doing. I don’t think we’ve gotta be all mean and Sue Sylvester like, but a good point was made, people want to be treated equally. And a show with a host like Zach could pave the way.

I saw Zach’s video and couldn’t stop laughing. Although I’m not allowed to vote since I live outside the United States, I forwarded his video to all my friends and relatives who lived in the area.

We need more guys like him around.
